rectal: considered more reliable when oral not available/ lags behind core temp. not for pt.s with diarrhea, requires position change,

axillary: safe, used for newborns and unconscious pts/ long measurement, underestimates,  

temporal: easy access, very fast, no risk, comfortable,reflects rapid change, /inaccurate with sweat on forehead
