Atropine Indications
- 1. Blocks acetylcholine receptors (decreases parasympathetic tone and increases heart rate)
- 2. decreases gastrointestinal secretions

Atropine Indications
- 1. symptomatic bradycardia (PVC's hypotension, decreased LOC)
- 2. asystole and symptomatic heart block
- 3. organophosphate poisoning

Atropine Contraindications
None

Atropine Precautions
- 1. Total dose of .04 mg/kg or 3mg should not be exceeded except organophosphate poisoning
- 2. A Fib and A Flutter with rapid ventricular response
- 3. Glaucoma and COPD: Hypertension may worsen
- 3. Use with caution in 2 degree II and 3 degree heart blcok in AMI patients

Atropine Side Effects
- 1. Palpitations and tachicardia
- 2. Headache, dizziness, anxiety
- 3. Dry mouth pupilary dilation and blurred vision
- 4. urinary retention
- 5. OD: Hot, blind, dry, red, mad

Atropine Adult Dose
- 1. Bradycardia: .5-1mg every 3 to 5 minutes to max
- 2. Asystole: 1mg every 3 to 5 minutes to max
- 3. Organophosphate poisoning: 2-5mg
- (min dose .5mg)
