    Parasympatholytic
  2. Atropine Indications
    • 1. Blocks acetylcholine receptors (decreases parasympathetic tone and increases heart rate)
    • 2. decreases gastrointestinal secretions
  3. Atropine Indications
    • 1. symptomatic bradycardia (PVC's hypotension, decreased LOC)
    • 2. asystole and symptomatic heart block
    • 3. organophosphate poisoning
  4. Atropine Contraindications
    None
  5. Atropine Precautions
    • 1. Total dose of .04 mg/kg or 3mg should not be exceeded except organophosphate poisoning
    • 2. A Fib and A Flutter with rapid ventricular response
    • 3. Glaucoma and COPD: Hypertension may worsen
    • 3. Use with caution in 2 degree II and 3 degree heart blcok in AMI patients
  6. Atropine Side Effects
    • 1. Palpitations and tachicardia
    • 2. Headache, dizziness, anxiety
    • 3. Dry mouth pupilary dilation and blurred vision
    • 4. urinary retention
    • 5. OD: Hot, blind, dry, red, mad
  7. Atropine Adult Dose
    • 1. Bradycardia: .5-1mg every 3 to 5 minutes to max
    • 2. Asystole: 1mg every 3 to 5 minutes to max
    • 3. Organophosphate poisoning: 2-5mg
    • (min dose .5mg)

    IM, IV, ET

    prefilled syringe 1mg in 10mL
  10. Atropine Pediatric Dosage
    NOT INDICATED IN NEWBORNS

    • 1. Bradycardia: .01-.03mg per kg
    • 2. Organophosphate Poisoning: .05mg/kg
    • Min Dose: .01mg
    • Max Dose: .5mg
