  1. albumin
    test for albumin, the major protein molecule in blood
  2. alkaline phosphatase ALP
    test for the enzyme alkaline phosphatase that is found in both liver cells and bone cells
  3. ALT and AST
    test for enzymes alanine transanimase (ALT) and aspertate transanimase (AST)
  4. bilirubin
    test for unconjugated, conjugated, and totol bilirubin levels
  5. GGT
    test for the enzyme gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT or GGTP)
  6. liver function tests (LFT's)
    panel of individual blood tests performed at the same time to give a comprehensive picture of liver function. Includes albumin, bilirubin, ALT, AST, and GGT, as well as prothrombin time.
  7. CLO test
    rapid screening test to detect the presence of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori. (Campylobacter-like organism)
  8. culture and sensitivity (C&S)
    diagnostic test of a culture that determines which bacterium is causing an intestinal infection and a sensitivity test to determine which antibiotic drug it is sensitive to.
  9. fecal occult blood test
    diagnostic test for occult (hidden) blood in the feces
  10. gastric analysis
    diagnostic test to determine the amount of hydrochloric acid in the stomach
  11. ova and parasites (O&P)
    diagnostic test to determine if there is a parasitic infection in the gastrointestinal tract
  12. barium enema (BE)
    procedure that uses liquid radiopaque contrast medium instilled into the rectum and colon.
  13. cholangiography
    uses contrast dye to outline the bile ducts
  14. UGI
    upper gastrointestinal series
  15. NG tube
    insertion of a nasogastric through the nostril into the stomach
  16. PEG
    percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy
