DILTIAZEM (CARDIZEM) / CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER
- - Diltiazem is a slow calcium channel blocker similiar to verapamil.
- - Dilates coronary and peripheral arteries and arterioles, thus increasing circulation to the heart and reducing peripheral vascular resistance
-
DILTIAZEM (CARDIZEM) / CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER Indications
- 1. Supraventricular tachydysrhythmias (AFIB, Atrial Flutter, PSVT refractory to adenosine)
- 2. Increase coronary artery perfusion in angina
-
DILTIAZEM (CARDIZEM) / CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER Contraindications
- 1. Hypersensitivity
- 2. Sick Sinus Syndrome
- 3. 2nd or 3rd degree heart block
- 4. Systolic BP <90
- 5. Diastolic BP <60
- 6. Wide complex tachycardia
- 7. WPW
-
DILTIAZEM (CARDIZEM) / CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER Precautions
-
DILTIAZEM (CARDIZEM) / CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER Dosage/Route
0.25mg/kg IV over 2min, may repeat as needed with 0.35mg/kg followed by a drop of 5-10mg/hr. Not to exceed 15mg/hr over 24hrs
-
VERAPAMIL (ISOPTIN, CALAN) / CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER
- Verapamil is a calcium channel blocker that slows AV conduction, suppresses reentry dysrhythmias such as PSVT, and slows ventricular responses to atrial tachydysrhythmias.
- - Also dilates coronary arteries and reduces myocardial oxygen demand
-
VERAPAMIL (ISOPTIN, CALAN) / CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER Indications
- 1. PSVT refractory to adenosine
- 2. Atrial Flutter
- 3. Atrial Fibrillation with rapid ventricular response
-
VERAPAMIL (ISOPTIN, CALAN) / CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER Contraindications
- 1. Severe hypotension
- 2. Cardiogenic shock
- 3. 2nd or 3rd degree heart block
- 4. CHF
- 5. Sinus Node Disease
- 6. Accessory AV pathways
- 7. WPW syndrome
- 8. Should not be given to pts taking beta blockers
-
VERAPAMIL (ISOPTIN, CALAN) / CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER Dosage/Route
2.5 - 5mg IV bolus over 2-3min, then 5 - 10mg after 15-30min to a max of 30mg in 30 min
