Calcium chloride increases myocardial contractile force and increases ventricular automaticity.

• 1. Hyperkalemia
• 2. Hypocalcemia
• 3. Hypermagnesemia
• 4. Calcium channel blocker toxicity

• 1. VFIB
• 2. Hypercalcemia
• 3. Possible digitalis toxicity

• - May precipitate toxicity in patients taking digoxin
• - Ensure the IV line is in a large vein and flushed before and after using calcium

2 - 4 mg/kg IV (10% solution)/10 min as needed
