- Procainamide :
- 1. prolongs ventricular repolarization
- 2. slows conduction
- 3. decreases myocardial excitability
PROCAINAMIDE (PRONESTYL) / ANTI-ARRHYTHMIC Indications

ventricular fibrillation and pulseless ventricular tachycardia refractory to lidocaine
PROCAINAMIDE (PRONESTYL) / ANTI-ARRHYTHMIC Contraindications
- 1. Hypersensitivity to procainamide or procaine
- 2. Myasthenia gravis
- 3. 2nd or 3rd degree heart block
PROCAINAMIDE (PRONESTYL) / ANTI-ARRHYTHMIC Precautions
- 1. Hypotension
- 2. Cardiac enlargement
- 3. CHF
- 4. AMI
- 5. Ventricular dysrhythmias from digitalis
- 6. Hepatic or Renal impairment
- 7. Bronchial asthma
PROCAINAMIDE (PRONESTYL) / ANTI-ARRHYTHMIC Dosage/Route
- 20-30 mg/min IV drip
- Stop points:
- 1. up to 17mg/kg to effect
- 2. ectopy resolves
- 3. QRS complex widens more than 50% from original
- 4. hypotension ensues
