    Straightforward, generally literal level wrighting which means what it says--textbooks, news articles.
  2. 3 types of tone
    Serious, Critical/Analytical, Cynical
  3. Critical/Analytical
    Could be positive or negative in judgement
  4. irony
    1.a. The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning. b. An expression or utterance marked by a deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning. c.  A literary style employing such contrast for humorous of rhetorical effect.  2. b. Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs:
  5. ironic
    A deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning; the expression of the opposite of what might be expected or intended. The pointing out of contradictions or coincidental pairings of ideas.
  6. Sarcasm, Sarcastic:
    Harsh, mocking, even nasty writing intended to ridicule or hurt, often using harshly ironic statements.
  7. Satire, satirical
    Poking fun at a person or at society or at  condition in order  to encourage change.  Uses subtle humor, irony and even mild   sarcasm, often suggesting ridiculous or impossible solutions.
