    • Rodshaped
    • Gram negative (pink)
    • Normal flora in G.I. tract
    • Most common bacteria that causes U.T.I's
  2. Staphylococcus aureus
    • Round and in clusters
    • Gram positive (purple)
    • Causes boils, carbuncles, & impetigo
    • Staphylococcus epidermidis is normal on skin
  3. MRSA
    Methacillin Resistant Staph Aureus

    requires special antibiotics
  4. Streptococcus
    • Round and in chains
    • Gram positive (purple)
    • 2 different important Strep pathogens:
    • 1.) Strep A: causes throat cultures
    • 2.) Strep B: found in birth canal, can be passed to babe at birth
  5. Neisseria
    • Round
    • Gram negative (pink)
    • N. gonorrhea: a diplococci (foind in pairs) causes g.c.
    • N. meningitis: if found in CSF, can be the cause of menigitis
  6. Borrelia burgdoreri
    a spiral bacteria that causes Lyme disease
  7. Trepanema pallidum
    a spiral bacteria that causes syphilis in humans
