- -lochia is the vaginal (after birth) discharge, containing blood, mucus, and placental tissue.
- Progresses in 3 stages:
- -Lochia rubra: bright/dark red, 1-3 days
- -Lochia serosa: pink/brown 3-10 days
- -Lochia alba: mucus, clr, or white, 10-21 days

- -Routine PostOp, every 4 hrs, then every 24 hrs
- -report temp of 100.4 or above
- -Bradycardia is normal (48 hrs)
- -Tachycardia may indicate infection of hypovolemia
- -pre-delivery BP or slightly decreased is normal due to progesterone vasodilation

Describe changes to breasts/nipples during postpartum
- -2-3 days soft/full
- -3rd day firm/lumpy
- -Engorgement may occur
- -Supportive bra, no soap
- -Non-nursing mom should avoid stimulation
- -Assess: consistency, size, shape, symmetry, and nipples for redness, cracking, bleeding, inversion
