いadj/Nの/Vた/Vている/Vていた＋ところ/ところ＋に/へ/を/だ*

お忙しいところ(を)すみません。

会いたいと思ていたところです。

＝今ちょうど思っていました

• *に is used to show that something happens during/at that situation.
• へ, which typically shows direction, can show something going/coming to that situation.
• を treats the phrase as a noun that can be acted on

When A, B

Vた＋ところ

• 病院で検査したところ、異常はなかった。
• When I was examined at the hospital, there were no signs of any problems.
• ＝検査してみたら
• けんさ

• 駅に問い合わせたところ、忘れ物は届いていた
• When I asked the station, the thing that I had forgotten had been turned in.

• といあわせ
• とどいていた

Because of A I can't do B

• 工場で火事があり、仕事どころではなかった。
• Because of the fire at the factory, I had to put my work aside

• My cold is so bad, that I cant think about going out.

• To say nothing of A, far from A, much less A, let alone A
• This is often used to show the extremity of a situation; while the listening might think of A, it's actually far worse.

• 「夏休みは取れそう？」
• 「忙しくて夏休みどころか日曜日も休めないよ。」
• 「そう。うちの会社は忙しいどころか仕事がなくて困っているんだ。」
• "Do you think you can take some days off for a summer break?"
• "I'm so busy. I can't take sundays off, let alone take a summer break."
• "Really? In my case, it's the opposite. My company doesn't have enough work."
