- CNS depressant
- Decreases sensitivity to pain by binding to opiate receptors in the brain
- Analgesic & sedative effects

Indications
- Severe pain
- Adjunct to rapid-sequence induction intubation
- Maintenance of analgesia

Contraindications
- Shock
- Severe hemorrhage
- Hypersensitivity to the med

Precautions
- Respiratory depression - Narcan should be available
- Hypotension
- Liver or kidney disfunction
- Rususcitative equipment should be available
- MAOI within 14 days
- Caution if Pt rec'd other CNS depressants
- Monitor carefully

- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Altered LOC
- Bradycardia
- Respiratory arrest
- Circulatory depression

Adult Dose
- 25 - 100 mcg (0.025 - 0.1 mg) IV
- Direct IV - slowly over 1 - 3 minutes
