ICT Section 5

  1. With presentation software animations and transitions could be used.

    B) An image could grow, shrink, move or rotate.

    B) Transition effect could include fade in and opening or closing like a curtain.

    C) True the bars of a Presentation can enter one by one!
  2. On a presentation software, you can hyperlink multimedia such as video clips and sound effects. what can you control over these?
    (give three responses)
    • A) You can decide when it would start  (whether the multimedia would open directly when the slide opens or by using a button).
    • B) you can decide on its volume
    • C) You can decide if the multimedia would stop when it reaches the end or whether it would start again.
  3. A) What is a good color scheme?
    B) what effect does a good color scheme give?
    C) (finish the sentence) The most professional presentations have a ......... layout and a ........... color scheme.
    • A) a good color scheme is combinations of colors that look good together
    • B) A good color scheme creates consistency making it professional.
    • C) Simple, consistent.
  4. What does HTML stand for?
    Hypertext Mark-up Language!
  5. Explain a wed design software; keywords to use are text, pictures, Word Processor, HTML, convert, codesoftware, master pages, consistency,  templates, and web pages.
Wed design software is similar to a word processor because you insert text, images and so on in a similar way. Then it results in a website with web pages. However, the software converts it to a HTML - this is the standard code that web browsers can understand.

    • There are two main features:
    • A) master pages are used when the user wants to insert the same thing on every page - it saves time and creates consistency

    B) templates are pages that are partially completed - you just change the text and make small changes though to suit it to your own purpose.

  6. In web design software what is/are...
    A) a navigation bar
    B) counters
    A) A navigation bar on your website contains all the hyperlinks from all web pages, making it easier to find specific information. Usually the web pages that are frequently visited are on it too e.g. home page.

    B) Counters are useful to see how many visitors that were on your website. Some counters don't count repeat visitors, so that you can see how many individuals have visited your website.
  7. Give 6 features of a web-design software
    1. You can use a marquee to make text scroll across the screen - can be annoying.

    2. You can use a form to capture visitor details such as their name and email address, or you can get some feedback

    3. You can use hyperlinks to move from one page to another; especially important when there are many pages. They can also link to other peoples website.

    4. RSS Feed allow users to subscribe and when there is an update they are automatically informed.

    5. Animations are moving images and can be created with some Web-design software

    6. Hotspots are hyperlinks on a image. You can have more than one and they would all take the user to a separate webpages.
  8. What does MIDI stand for?

    Complete the empty spaces -
    MIDI signals contain data on P_ _ _ _, V_ _ _ _ _, I_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ etc. but not the actual S _ _ _ _ .
    Musical Instrumental Digital Interface.

    Pitch, Volume, Intensity and Sound.
  9. 1. What could media players be?
    2. What are the basic features of Media Players?
    3. Give one extra feature of a Media Player.
    4. What is a playlist?
    1. media players could be a piece of hardware (DVD Player) or a software installed on your computer.

    2. Start/open, stop, pause, fast forward, reverse, mute, and volume adjustments

    3. Subtitles

    4. A playlist is a custom list of media which plays in order
  10. Explain the process of creating and editing media files, by suggesting...

    A) Input and output hardware
    B) editing software (give 2 examples and descripe one)
    C) Analogue and digital signals
    D) How to compose music using software
To create or edit media files you need to input the data - you can use microphones, MIDI instruments and video cameras - edit it by using editing software such as video editor and sound-wave editor and then it must be shown through an output device - examples are speakers and the monitor

With sound - wave editor, the sounds could be adjusted in all ways - different effects, tempo etc.

if you want to edit the sounds on a computer, it must be converted from analogue to digital

You can also compose your own music by using a stave - like using pen and paper you can add notes to an on-screen stave and play it back to yourself.
  11. Explain the following downloading, streaming, and podcast.
Downloading - This is saving media files onto your own computer that are available on a server through the internet.

Streaming - This is like downloading but instead the media gets played on a media player on the server without being saved on your computer. It is like watching a movie on  the TV instead of using the DVD player.

Podcast - these are series of media files which are placed on a server as episodes. People can download podcasts at any time and watch it through a media player such as an ipod. The podcast may be about the news, a comedy program or educational resources. It is basically the modern way of broadcasting.
  12. Explain a Bitmap image by using the following key words:

H bitmap image could be created using graphics "painting" software. It is saved as a series of colorful dots called pixels. The files are large and takes up a lot of memory - each dot could be saved individually. You can basically alter each individual dot by using tools from a range.

Because the files are large, it may not fit in and the image may be compressed. This means the removal of pixels which reduces the resolution (this is the number of pixels making the image) and it would become blurry.
  13. Explain a Vector image by using the following key words:

A vector uses Graphics "drawing"software. The images are stored with coordinates and equations - as an example a red circle may be saved with its center coordinate, color code and by the size of its radius.

When the image gets compressed or re-seized it doesn't loose its resolution. Thus, it makes it easier to edit it. In addition every piece of object can be manipulated individually.
  14. By explaining why, would you create images or use existing ones? you can consider...

a - where can you get existing images?
b - can scanners be used?
c - disadvantages of creating own images
By using the graphics software you can literally draw anything. However, starting from scratch is time consuming

Instead you can use a scanner to change an image on a piece of paper to a digital image. After taking images by using a digital camera you could send it through an email attachment. However, you can also take images of others from clip art and edit it.
  15. By explaining why, would you create images or use existing ones? you can consider...

a - where can you get existing images?
b - can scanners be used?
c - disadvantages of creating own images
    • 1. You can create straight lines or free-hand lines at different thickness and colors.
    • 2. You can change the size of objects by dragging the handles (outside the image) inwards or outwards - must be careful to give it proportional to avoid stretched and squashed images.
    • 3. You can get simple shapes such as squares, circles, rectangles and triangles. However, you can edit these to get more complex ones such as speech bubbles and arrows
    • 4. Because most vector graphics are made from the combination of separate objects, you can change the color of each piece individually - e.g. you can give a different outfit to a man each time.
    • 5. In painting software you can freehand draw with a brush and an air brush; you can also erase pixels
    • 6. You can construct an image using different objects - as an example if a seal is holding a ball, the ball can be replaced with anything else.
    • 7. Finally, you can use color fill and shading to change the backgrounds and colors of objects. You can have single fill, patterned fills and gradients (transitions from one color to another)
