Indications
Hypotension: systolic <70 mmHg, NOT due to hypovolemia.

Precautions
Fluid replacement should be initiated first.
Use caution if Pt is on beta blockers.
Give through largest vein readily available as tissue necrosis can occur if medication extravasates.
Increases myocardial oxygen demand
: use with caution in Pt with myocardial ischemia.
Can be deactivated with alkaline solutions such as Sodium Bicarbinate.
Constant monitoring of BP is essential.

Dilute
: 8 mg in 500 mL D5W (16 mcg/mL)
OR
4 mg in 250 mL D5W (16 mcg/mL)

0.1 - 0.5 mcg/min per AHA, however higher doses may be required to maintain adequate BP.
Should be piggybacked into an existing IV infusion & administered via a controlled pump.
