  1. Ventilation
-movement of air in and out of the lungs.

    Air in- inhalation/inspiration

    Air out- exhalation/expiration
  2. Respiration
-exchange of respiratory gases (O2 & CO2) between capillaries

    • *Alveoli → Ext Resp
    • *Cells→Int Resp
  3. O2
    Oxygen
  4. CO2
    Carbon Dioxide
  5. Oxygenated Blood
Blood high in O2, found in arteries, pulmonary veins, left heart
  6. Deoxygenated Blood
Blood low in O2, found in veins, pulmonary arteries, right heart
  7. Blood
    • -essential body fluid, found in cardiovascular system.
    • *Made up of blood cells, plasma.
    • *Blood transports O2 & CO2

    RBC(Red Blood Cells) aka Erthrocytes- transport O2 & CO2
  8. Hemoglobin
-iron containing pigment of red blood cells that carries oxygen from lungs to the tissues.

    • *Transport O2 & CO2 *Made up of iron & protein
    • *Iron carries O2 *Protein carries CO2
  9. Perfusion
-blood flow to a specific organ or tissue.
  10. Hyperfusion
-increased blood flow to a specific organ or tissue
  11. Hypofusion
    - decreased blood flow to a specific organ or tissue
  12. Tension
    -pressure
  13. Hypertenstion
    -high blood pressure
  14. Hypotension
    -low blood pressure
  15. Oxemia
    -O2 in blood
  16. Hypoxemia
-decrease in O2 in arterial blood
  17. Hypoxia
    -decrease in O2 in tissue
  18. Hypercapnia
    -increase CO2 in arterial blood
  19. Hypocapnia
    -decrease CO2 in arterial blood
