  1. DSM-IV Diagnostic Criteria for Major Depression
    Criteria: > or = 5 symptoms, + depressed mood or anhedonia, causing sign.dysfunction

    Symptom Duration: > or = 2 weeks
  2. DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for Minor depression
    2-4 symptoms, + depressed mood or anhedonia causing sign.dysfunction

    Symptom duration: > or = 2 weeks
  3. DSM-IV Diagnostic Criteria for Dysthymia
    Criteria: 3-4 sx, + depressed mood, causing sign.dysfunction

    Symptom duration: > or = 2 years
  4. DSM-IV Criteria for Major Depression (MNEMONIC)
    Dx req. 5 of 9 symptoms present nearly daily for at least 2 weeks.

    Required for dx: depressed mood AND decreased interest/pleasure

    • S: suicidal thoughts
    • I: interest decrease
    • G: guilt; worthlessness

    E: energy decrease

    • C: cognitive problems
    • A: appetite/weight change
    • P: psychomotor changes
    • S: sleep disturbance
