Frame Relay

  1. CIR
    Committed Information Rate. Your lowest speed on the Frame Relay connection.
  2. LAR
    Local Access Rate. Physical speed of cable, but is caped by CIR speed.
  3. LMI
    • Local Management Interface. Language that is spoken between the router and the
    • service provider
  4. DLCI
    Data Link Connection Identifier. Similar to a mac address on ethernet.
  5. PVC
    • Permanent Virtual Circuit. Lines that you can buy to another location. Each can
    • have a different speed CIR.
  6. How do DLCI's work?
    • Similar to flying. You leave from one destination number, and arrive at
    • another. They are locally significant.
