VT-3 Standard Operating Procedures

  1. When should hearing protection be used?
    Within 200 feet of an operating aircraft
  2. What is the is the rule on flying with rings?
    They must be removed before going on the flight line or entering the aircraft.
  3. How shall flight suits be worn in the plane?
    They shall be worn with the sleeves rolled all the way down and wrist cuffs tightened prior to entering the aircraft and gloves worn over sleeves from engine start to engine shutdown.
  4. Who do you turn in SOP change recommendations to?
    The Standardization Officer
  5. What is the purpose of the IMSAFE checklist?
    The intent of IMSAFE is to give students and instructors a means to account for unplanned or unforeseen events that may impact their performance and/or safety in the aircraft.
  6. What constitutes a scheduled day?
    Any day in which there is an event that the SNA reports for.
  7. When does crew day start and end?
    Crew day starts at arrival in the work environment and ends at departure from the work environment.
  8. How long is crew rest?
    12 hours minimum, excluding phone calls (2 hours after leaving or prior to entry)
  9. What is the official schedule for the squadron?
    The online flight schedule or a signed hard copy schedule
  10. When are EP quizzes due for SNAs?
    They are due once a week to their on-wings.
  11. If an out-and-in, what happens if there is a Marginal or UNSAT performance on the first flight?
    The second event should be cancelled.
  12. After C4106, what happens if a SNA overspeeds the landing gear?
    That event is automatically graded UNSAT.
  13. Where shall flight gear be stored normally?
    The paraloft
  14. What do you have to do if you keep your flight gear overnight?
    Keep it under lock and key
  15. How much fuel must you land with?
    200 pounds plus alternate (260 pounds, assuming alternate to NASP, which will take roughly 60 pounds)
  16. What is the stated minimum fuel?
    200 pounds
  17. What is the stated emergency fuel?
    120 pounds
  18. True or False: All flights should have a calculated Joker and Bingo fuel level.
  19. If it is the 1st flight of the day, what is required?
    A NATOPS brief if you are occupying either cockpit when the engine is engaged

    The R&I, NOTAMS, WX Status, and TOLD
  23. When shall students arrive at their briefing spaces?
    • 15 minutes before the scheduled brief for a normal flight
    • 45 minutes before the scheduled brief for a solo flight to take the EP/Ops Limits quiz
  24. What must be brought to each brief?

    • 2. Pocket Check List (with current changes)
    • 3. New Orleans VFR Sectional
    • 4. Training folders with filled paperwork

  25. How should the EP of the day be briefed?
    If memory item, must recite steps without use of PCL. Notes, warnings, and cautions shall be stated (not verbatim).

    If non-memory item, PCL shall be opened and used as an aid to discuss the EP.
  26. What must you check before practicing pre-flight on the "Pre-flight Aircraft"?
    2 pins in; canopy and CFS doors locked
  27. True or false: Students may use the pocket checklist during the pre-flight walk-around.
  28. How long must the IP check to see if the students are correctly strapped in before entering their seats?
    Through every pre-solo contact flight.
  29. What do you do to check your upper fittings?
    Lean forward to make sure they are connected properly.
  30. What two conditions will not allow the engine to be started?
    • 1. If there is no fireguard present when at Whiting Field.
    • 2. If there is lightning within five miles. You must evacuate the flight line and return to the line shack.
  31. When must aircrew be strapped in?
    From engine start to engine shutdown.
  32. Can you accomplish the after landing checklist while taxiing back to the line?
  33. What do you do if you have to troubleshoot while on the ground?
    Stop the aircraft. If you are a solo student, contact the FDO if time permits. If an IP, inform the FDO if there is going to be a delay that affects takeoff times or requires an airplane swap.
  34. When shall you plan a Gx?
    If you intend on doing a maneuver that is more than 3G's
  35. How do you perform a G Awareness/G Exercise?
    Two 90 degree turns. The first one targeting 3G's (to ensure the blane and body are ready to go) and the second one targeting 4-5G's.
  36. What is the focus of the Gx?
    To allow the IP to check to see if the SNA is performing the AGSM and giving the proper "hick" over the intercom.
