Sinus Brady

  1. What can cause sinus bradycardia
    • Excessive vagal stimulation
    • carotid massage
    • vomit/suctioning
    • hypoxia
    • shock
    • valsalva manuver
    • occular pressure
    • pain
    • beta andrenergic blocker
    • Ca++ channel blockers
    • digitalis
    • athletes(normal for an athlete to have bradycardia)
  2. PR for bradycardia
    less than 60BPM
  3. Is there a P wave
    yes
  4. What does bradycardia do to infusion,  perfusion, and O2
    • Increases infusion time(more time to fill)
    • decrease perfusion pressure
    • decrease O2 demand(heart isn't working hard)
  5. What are S/S of sinus bradycardia
    • asymptomatic
    • syncope
    • hypotension
    • dizzy/weak
    • confused
    • diaphoresis
    • SOB
    • chest pain(ischemia)
  6. If the patient suddenly becomes asymptomatic what might you still see
    • hypotension
    • O2 decreased
    • decreased LOC
  7. How do we treat sinus bradycardia
    • IV fluids
    • atropine/epi
    • O2
    • pacemaker
  8. What is the benefit of using epi
    atropine is more heart specific
