  1. Megestrol acetate
    Appetite Stimulant
  2. Orlistat
    Decreases fat absorption by binding lipase
  3. Marinol
    Appetite Stimulant
  4. Statins (HMG CoA reductase inhibitors)
    Decrease LDL, TG; increase HDL
  5. Chemotherapy
  6. Mineral oil, cholestyramine
    Decrease absorption of fat, fat-soluble vitamins
  7. Glucocorticoids, antibiotics
    Protein deficits
  8. Oral contraceptives
    Decrease folate, B6, C
  9. Loop diuretics
    Deplete potassium, magnesium, Ca, Na, Cl
  10. Thiazide diuretics
    Decrease potassium and magnesium, absorb Ca
  11. Antibiotcs
    Decrease Vit K
  12. Steroids
    Decrease bone growth, CHO intolerance
  13. Methotrexate
    decrease folate
  14. Lithium carbonate (antidepressant
    Increased appetite, weight gain; maintain consistent sodium and caffeine intake to stabilize levels.  If sodium or caffeine are restricted, lithium excretion decreases, leading to toxicity.
  15. Anticoagulant (warfarin)
    Antagonizes Vit K (consistent intake essential); avoid ginko biloba extract, garlic, ginger; avoid high dose vit A, E
  16. Propofol
    Administered in oil, consider fat calories
  17. Phenobarbital
    decreased folic acid, vitamins B12, D, K, B6
  18. Cyclosporine (immunosuppressant)
    hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, hyperkalemia, HTN
  19. Isoniazid (treats TB)
    Depletes pyridoxine, peripheral neuropathy, don't take with food, interferes with vit D
  20. Elavil (antidepressant)
    Sedative effect, weight gain, increased appetite.
  21. Vitamin B6 and Protein
    Decrease effectiveness of L-dopa (levodopa) which controls symptoms of Parkinson's disease
  22. Calcium
    Binds tetracycline
  23. Tyramine
    • HTN if taken with MAOI
    • 1.  Eliminate dopamine and restrict tyramine.  Normally, these are oxidized by MAO.  If on an MAOI, interaction releases norepinephrine which elevates blood pressure
    • 2,  Restrict aged, fermented, dried, pickled, smoked, spoiled foods.
    • 3.  Avoid hard, aged cheese, sauerkraut, some sausages, luncheon meats, tofu, miso, chianti wine.
    • 4.  OK: cot chz, crm chz, ricotta chz, farmers chz
