    The building blocks of protein.
  5. Antibody
    Special proteins that protect the body from foreign substances.
  6. ATP
    (Adenosine Triphosphate) The energy of the cell.
  7. Atria
    Upper chambers of the heart.
  8. Bile
    Product of the liver that emulsifies fat.
  9. Cartilage
    Tissue made of cells and fibers that connect and support.
  10. Ceruminous Gland
    Gland of the ear that produces ear wax.
  11. Chromosomes
    Bodies within the nucleus, made of DNA and proteins called histones.
  12. Cilia
    Small hairlike projections on some cells.
  13. CNS
    (Central Nervous System) Made up of the brain and the spinal cord.
  14. Coronal Plane
    Imaginary line passing through the body from the head to feet that divides the body into front and back portions.
  15. Cranial Cavity
    Body cavity containing the brain.
  16. Diaphragm
    Dome shaped breathing muscle that separates the thoratic and abdominal cavities.
  17. Diffusion
    Movement of materials from high concentration to low concentration.
  18. Digestion
    The mechanical and chemical breakdown of food.
  19. Dorsal Horn
    Crescent shaped projection of gray matter within the spinal chord where sensory neurons enter the spinal cord.

    (Electrocardiogram) A record of the electrical activity of the heart.
  21. Embryo
    Prenatal development time between the zygote and the fetus.
  22. Endometrium
    Inner lining of the uterus.
  23. Enzymes
    Functional proteins; their names usually end in (-ase).
  24. Foramen Magnum
    A passage in the skull bone through which the spinal cord enters the spinal column.

    The blood cells
  26. Glucose
    A simple sugar found in certain foods, especially fruits.
  27. Homeostasis
    A physiologic steady state that is naturaly maintained within the body.
  28. Hypothalamus
    Portion of the brain that regulates body temperature, sleep, and appetite.

    To eat food and drink.
  30. Joints
    Articulations between adjoining bones.
  31. Keratin
    A tough, fibrous, insoluble protein forming the promary component of skin, hair, nails, and tooth enamel.
  32. Keratinized Epithemium
    The dead cells of the epidermis.
  33. Lacteal Vessel
    Found within the villi of the intestinal wall, where fat nutrients are absorbed.

    Engulfing of materials by certain cells of the body
  46. Plasma
    The liguid portion of blood
  47. Pulmonary Circulation
    Blood flow through a network of vessels between the heart and the lungs for the oxygenation of blood and the remocal of carbon dioxide.
