Properties of water
Polar
Readily forms hydrogen bonds
Excellent solvent. Dissolves both charged and polar molecules
hydrophobic
does not like water. example: oil
hydrophilic
likes water or molecules will dissolve in water ( salt)
Importance of Carbon
Readily forms a variety of covalent ( strong ) bonds.
