NCLEX- MISC central nervous system meds

  1. Succinocholine (Anectine)
    Depolarizing neuromuscular blocker. Causes muscular relaxation by binding to ACH receptors
  2. What is the reversal of succinycholine
    Pseudocholinesterase
  3. Pancuronium (Pavulon)
    Nuromuscular blocking agent. Non-depolarizing. Blocks ACh from binding w/ cholinergic receptors.
  4. What is the reversal of Pancuronium (Pavulon)
    Neostigmine.
  5. What the the two main side effects of nueromuscular blocking agents in general?
    • Resp arrest (from paralyzed resp muscles)
    • Hypotension.
  6. What electrolyte imbalance can succinocholine cause?
    Hyperkalemia.
  7. Who is succinocholine contraindicated in?
    People @ risk for hyperkalemia.
  8. diazepam (Valium)
    Benzodiazepine, centrally acting muscle relaxant.
  9. Cyclobenzaprine (flexeril)
    Centrally aciting muscle relxant. Releif of muslce spasm related to muscle injury.
  10. Metaxalone (Skelaxin)
    Centrally aciting muscle relxant. Releif of muslce spasm related to muscle injury.
  11. Tizanidine (zanaflex)
    Centrally aciting muscle relxant. Releif of muslce spasm related to muscle injury.
  12. Baclofen (Lioresal)
    Centrally acting muscle relaxant.
  13. Dantrolene (dantrium)
    Peripherally acting muscle relaxant.
  14. What is the main adverse effect with Dantrolene?
    Hepatoxicity toxic (anorexia, nausea, vomitting, abdominal pain, jaundice)
  15. Bethanechol (Urecholine)
    Muscarinic agonist. For non-obstructive urinary retention.
  16. What pt's are contraindicated in taking Bethanechol?
    Clients w/ urinary or GI obstruction, asthma and hyperthyroidism.
  17. Oxybutynin (Ditropan)
    M3 receptor selective. Muscarinic antagonist. TX of overactive bladder.
  18. Darifenacin (Enablex)
    M3 receptor selective. Muscarinic antagonist. TX of overactive bladder.
  19. Tolterodine (Detrol)
    Non selective Muscarinic antagonist. TX of overactive bladder.
  20. Succinocholine can cause what dangerous condition?
    Malignant hyperthermia from the excessive metabolic activity that is happening in the muslce.
  21. What is the antidote for malignant hyperthermia.
    Dantrolene
  22. What is important to tell a pt taking muscle relaxants who is about to discontinue the meds?
    Dont stop taking medication abruptly to avoid withdrawal reaction.
