MOA of ACE Inhibitors and effect
block conversionof angiotensin 1 to 2 AND aldosterone is blocked
causes vasodilation AND dec. in Na and water retention
MOA of beta blockers and effect
block beta receptors in heart --> dec. HR and dec. force of contraction
MOA of CCB and effect
block Ca influx into beta receptors --> dec. force of heart contraction and HR
patient teaching for antihypertensives (A-B-C drugs) (4)
do not stop abruptly
do not double dose if one is missed
change position slowly -- may cause orthostatic hypotension
take caution in hot environments -- may aggrevate low BP
nursing implications for beta blockers (3)
evaluate BP before giving -- hold if systolic less than 90
monitor pt with diabietes-- tachy (sign of hypoglycemia) may be masked
instruct pt to report weakness, dizziness or fainting
side effects of ACE inhibitors (3)
postural hypotension
hyperkalemia
non-productive cough
patient teaching with ACE inhibitors (3)
rise slowly from lying or sitting
notify MD if cough develops
avoid K supplements
nursing considerations with ACE inhibitors (2)
asses for hx of renal impairment -- contraindicated
admin on empty stomach
SE of CCB(4)
edema of extremities
constipation
DYSRHYTHMIAS
