The bird O donnell is a man who often goes to Micks pub for a drink. He is a cattle dealer. His nick name is the bird and I think this is because he is always whistling

Maggie butler is an old widow woman who lives in Carrigthomond alone. She owns a house and a field which was willed to her by her late husband after his death at the start of the play she approache mick flannigan to try and sell the field.
