  1. ´╗┐Anemia
    Deficiency of red blood cells
  2. Bradycardia
    Abnormally low heart rate
  3. Cachexia
    Systemic wasting of muscle tissue with or without loss of fat mass accompanies chronic disease
  4. Hematemesis
    Vomiting of blood
  5. Hypovolemia
    Disorder causing a diminished volume of blood
  6. Leukopenia
    Abnormally low level of circulating WBCs
  7. Neutropenia
    Abnormally low levels of neutrophils (type of WBC)
  8. Tachypneic
    Abnormally fast rate of breathing, typically more than 20 respirations per minute.
  9. Thrombocytopenia
    Abnormally low levels of circulating platelets
  10. Inspection
    1st step in physical exam process. Uses senses: Vision, smell, hearing
  11. Palpation
    2nd step involves touching and feeling body parts with hand- augments data found via inspection
  12. Percussion
    3rd step in physical exam, striking body surface to determine position, size and density of organs/STRs or detecting air in body cavities.
  13. Auscultation
    Last step of physical exam (usually) Listening to spontaneous body sounds sounds (via stethoscope)
  14. Standard precautions
    Practice that pretends everyone has a bloodborne disease to protect oneself in the work place.
  15. Bloodborne pathogens
    • Pathogenic microorganisms present in human blood can cause disease in humans ex: HepB and
    • HIV
  16. Personal protective equipment
    Specialized clothing/equipment as barrier vs transmission of infection ex. Gloves, gowns, masks, goggles, face shields
  17. Seroconversion
    Development of antibodies or antigens as result of infection or immunization.
