-
Define Hair Sculpture.
Artistic carving or removing of hair lengths to create various forms or shapes.
-
Three basic observations levels used for hair sculpture analysis
Basic-overall form or shape of the sculpture
Detail-surface decoration or texture of the form
- Abstract-graphic representation of the hair sculpture that
- represents the physical structure (blueprint)
-
What is the form line?
The outer line or silhouette that is created from the basic form of the hair
-
When analyzing the design of the shape, what is the only to consider?
silhouette
-
Name and describe the two types of Texture
Unactivated-Texture made up of smooth, unbroken lines
Activated-Texture made up of broken lines and exposed ends
-
Define Structure
The arrangement of lengths across the curves of the head
-
What is a structure Graphic? When and why would you use it?
A diagram that provides an abstract view of the length arrangement (structure) to scale and proportions; used as a blueprint for the final sculpture.
-
Name two ways to analyze structure. Explain the importance of each.
- Natural Fall-description of the hair's appearance when the hair lengths falls naturally and are at rest.
- - Allows you to observe the surface appearance and the character and direction of the form line/overall shape.
- - Provides information about the length or level at which the hair relates to the actual anatomy of the head.

- Normal Projection-hair is viewed abstractly as if it were positioned at ninety degrees from the various curves of the head's surface.
- - Allows you to analyze the progression of hair lengths as you move around to different places on the head.
- - Gives you the ability to duplicate any given design as well as develop your own creativity.

SOLID FORM
aka: one-length cut, bob, Dutch boy, blunt cut or 0 degrees angle cut
- shape: rectangle
- color-code: blue
- texture: unactivated
- structure: shorter exterior progressing to longer interior
- weight: max weight develops at the form line since all lengths fall to the same level
-
GRADUATED FORM
- aka: Wedge or 45 angle cut
- shape: triangle
- color code: yellow
- texture: unactivated/activated
- structure: shorter exterior gradually progressing to longer interior
- weight: found above the perimeter form line, where the unactivated and activated textures meet
-
INCREASE-LAYERED FORM
![Image Upload 10](/flashcards/images/image_placeholder.png) - aka: Shag or 180 angle cut
- shape: oval
- color code: red
- texture: activated
- structure: shorter interior progressing to longer exterior
- weight: no concentration of weight since lengths disperse across the curves of the head
-
UNIFORMLY LAYERED FORM
- aka: Layered cut or 90 degree angle cut
- color code: green
- shape: circular
- texture: activated
- structure: same lengths throughout
- weight: no concentration of weight in any particular area, due to even weight distribution of hair
-
GRADATION
- Other than being a much shorter cut than the graduated form, gradations mimic the same structure.
- Four basic design forms apply to men, too.
