Type 2 diabetes w/A1C levels that remain elevated after taking metqaformin

can be used in conjunction w/metaformin & thiazolidinediones
Contraindications of Glipizide(Glucotrol)
- Advanced diabetes insulin dependent(beta cells no longer produce insulin)
- Type 1 diabetes
- hypoglycemia
- sulfonimide allergy(still given, be cautious)
- *not contraindicated in renal failure*
Adverse effects of Glipizide(Glucotrol)
- hypoglycemia
- weight gain
- rash
- Nausea
- epigastric fullness
- heartburn
Route of Glipizide(Glucotrol)

PO 5-10 mg daily(max 20mg)
MOA of Glipizide(Glucotrol)
- bind to beta cell receptors
- stimulate insulin release
- decrease glucagon secreations
