  1. what is a RIGHT mean?
    • Things we deserve as human beings.
    • EX). the right to clean water,food,shelter, reasonable access to health care.
  2. what is a LEGAL RIGHT ?
    More specific and refer to rights secured by law which cannot be denied from one situation to the next. 
  3. what is a FREEDOM ?
    Means that nobody can interfere with what you want to do.The government has a responsibility to ensure that legal rights do not unjustifiable limit your freedoms.
  4. Is our RIGHTS and FREEDOMS protected?
    Our freedoms and rights are protected under the CHARTER OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS.
  5. What came before the CHARTER OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS ?
    Was the Constitution Act in 1867 founded Canada as a nation.
  6. The CONSTITUTION ACT distributed what ?
    The Act distributed power between the federal and provincial government.
  7. When was the BILL OF RIGHTS passed?
    • The bill was passed in 1960.
    • +It was only a statue,meaning it had no more power than any other law.
  8. What influenced the CHARTER OF RIGHTS and FREEDOMS?
    Inspired by documents :

    • + 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
    • + 1950 European Convention of the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
    • + 1966 International Covenant of Civil and Political Rights.

    • +1980 government set up a day where all party committee had to hear what people had to say about the CHARTER OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS.The Committee listened to over 300 presentations,1200 written submissions.\
    • From the submission the Committee made 123 recommendations to improve the CHARTER OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS.The Charter is apart of the Constitution Act,1982,signed by Queen Elizabeth II,which gave Canada control over the Constitution.
  10. What does The Charter,"The supreme law of Canada,and any law that is inconsistent with...the of no force or effect mean ?
    Means the Charter can cancel out any law that violates peoples rights.
  11. What do The Surpreme Court Judges have to do with the CHARTER OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS ?
    • Supreme Court Judges decide the limits on our Charter of Rights and Freedoms
    • Some Laws can be Overturned.
  12. Can the Canadian Government override or circumstances the Charter of Rights and Freedoms?
    • A Loophole in the Constitution:
    • Allows the Government to declare a law even though it violates the Charter.
    • It has been used to overrule language rights,mobility rights and voting rights.
    • +There is a five year limit on clause elections must be held every 5 years.
