contraction and relaxation of the fibers allow accommodations of the lens
What causes jaundice?
excessive bilirubin in the blood.
What are 2 signs of jaundice?
yellowing of the whites of the eyes
yellowing of skin
What is myopia?
nearsightedness
What is nystagmus?
continual rolling movement of the eyeballs.
What is photophobia?
abnormal intolerance to light
What is astigmatism?
a defect in the curvature of the eye
results in blurry vision
What is the retina?
The photosensitive nerve layer of the eyes.
What is retinitis pigmentosa?
Disease of retinal degeneration
progressive blindness
starts with night blindness in adolescence or adult life
What is retinoblastoma?
Tumor of the retina
What is retrolental fibroplasia?
eye disease of premature infants
What is a snellen chart?
visual screening chart used at schools in regular doctor's offices
measures visual acuity at 20' from the chart
What is strabismus?
lack of coordination of the eye muscles
characterized by squinting or crosseyedness
What is tracking?
the ability to pick out a word, letter, or group of words on a page
What is visual association?
organizing process where one is able to relate to concepts visually presented
What is visual closure?
can identify a visual stimulus from an incomplete visual presentation
What is visual discrimination?
ability to visually differeniate letters and words
what are visual motor skills?
ability coordinate vision with body movements
to complete tasks
what is visual perception?
idenitification, organization, interpretation of visual data through the eyes
What is visual sequential memory?
ability to retain a sequence of what is seen
What is figure ground perception?
ability to distinguish a form or pattern against a distracting background.
