Indications and Contraindications for Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS)
Indicated for pain and various musculoskeletal inflammatory conditions (e.g. arthritis). ASA and ibuprofen are also used as antipyretics (for fever). ASA is also used as a platelet inhibitor (to prevent heart attacks). Contraindicated for patients with hypersensitivity (and hypersensitivity to sulfonamides for celecoxib), with active peptic ulcer or inflammatory bowel disease, or with significant liver or renal impairment. Celecoxib, meloxicam and misoprostol are contraindicated in pregnancy. Celecoxib and meloxicam are contraindicated in lactation, in patients with hyperkalemia and following coronary bypass surgery. Meloxicam is contraindicated in patients under 18 years old. Use with caution in patients with asthma.
