    They are reproductive structures.
  2. What are the male gonads?
    The testes.
  3. What are the female gonads?
    The ovaries.
  4. What do gonads produce?
    Sex cells (ova and sperm) or gametes.

    The testes.
  6. Where is the site in testes where sperm is produced?
    Seminiferous tubules.

    200 million
  8. What are the accessory glands of the male reproductive system?
    Seminal vesicles, prostate gland, bulbourethral gland.
  9. What is the function of seminal vesicles? (male)
    Secrete fructose to nourish sperm, and seminal fluid.
  10. What is the function of the prostate gland? (male)
    Secretes watery alkaline fluid.
  11. What is the function of bulbourethral gland? (male)
    Secretes lubricating mucus, cleanses urethra.

  13. How many sperm does a single ejaculation contain?
    100-300 million.
  14. What are the 3 major hormones of the male?
    Testosterone, LH, FSH
  15. What is the function of testosterone?
    Controls growth and function of male reproductive tissues, stimulates aggression and sexual behavior, and secondary sexual characteristics.
  16. What is the function of LH in males?
    Stimulate production of testosterone.
  17. What is the function of FSH in males?
    May enhance sperm formation through Sertoli cells.
  18. Where does human fertilization take place?
    Oviduct (fallopian tube)
  19. What is the function of the female repoductive system?
    Produce eggs and supports pregnancy.
  20. What is the function of ovaries?
    Release oocytes and secrete the hormones estrogen and progesterone.
  21. What are the 3 layers of the Uterus?
    • -Endometrium
    • -Myometrium
    • -Cevix
  22. What is the function of the endometrium layer?
    Supports the fertilized egg, sloughs off during menstrual.
  23. What is the function of myometrium?
    Smooth muscle, expands during pregnancy, constricts during labor.
  24. What is the function of the cervix?
    The narrow opening in the lower part of the uterus that permits sperm to enter the uterus and allows the fetus to exit during birth.
  25. Are ovaries accessory organs?
    No
  26. What happens in the ovarian cycle?
    Oocytes mature and are released.
  27. What happens in the uterine cycle?
    Prepares uterus for pregnancy.
