Eclipses

  1.  What is the umbra?
    the dark inner portion
  2. What is the penumbra?
    The lighter, outer portion
  3. When does and eclipse occur?
    WHen one object ( sun or moon) moves into the umbra or penumbra of the other objects shadow.
  4. What is a luner eclipse?
    the earth casts a shadow on the moon.
  5. Why is a luner eclipse more common?
    THe earth has a bigger shadow and it is easier to cover the moon.
  6. WHat is a total Luner Eclipse?
    the moon is completely in the Earth's umbra. It is comepletely darkened.
  7. What is a partial luner eclipse?
    the moon does not fully enter the earth's umbra.
  8. WHat is a penumbral Eclipse?
    the moon passes through only a little of the earth's penumbra. Thesr are hardly noticeable.
