  1. Carbonyl group
    A carbon atom double bonded to an oxygen atom
  2. ketone
    a carbonyl group bonded to two carbon atoms. The carbonyl group is never at the end of the chain.
  3. aldehyde
    a carbonyl group bonded to at least one hydrogen atom. The carbon in the carbonyl group is always numbered 1.
