  1. What are rocks made up of?
Rocks are made up of minereals. It is like cookies are made up of ingredients. A rock can be a single mineral, just like chocolate chips in cookies and can be eaten just as chocolate.
  2. What are the 3 types of rocks?
The three types of rocks are igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary.
  3. What are IGNEOUS rocks?
Igneous rocks are formed from MAGMA, PLUTONIC and VOLCANIC rocks.
  4. What is MAGMA?
Magma is melted rock, it is part of IGNEOUS rocks.
  5. What is PLUTONIC?
Plutonic are rocks that harden slowly underground, often forming large crystals, like granite.
  6. What is VOLCANIC?
Volcanis rock forms above ground and hardens rapidly with fine crystals or none at all (basalt, pumice, obsidian).
  7. What are SEDIMENTARY rocks?
Sedimentary rocks are formed when erosion casues layers of sand, silt and or clay to build up. They harden over time into sedimentary rocks such as sandstone, shale, limestone.

Rocks that form from EVAPORATION are also called sedimentary rocks. This includes halite- rock salt.
  8. What is METAMORPHIC rocks?
Metamorphic rocks are those rocks that are changed under heat or pressure without meltng back into magma. Examples include schist, gneiss, shale turns into slate, limestone turns into marble.
  9. What is EROSION?
Erosion is what causes rocks to wear down and can change bolders into stones onto pebbles into sand, into clay.
