  1. Dehydrogenation reactions
    • Where an alkane loses hydrogen atoms and the product is an unsaturated hydrocarbon.
    • CH3CH3 - > CH2=CH2 + H2
  2. Alkenes
    • hydrocarbons with double CC bonds
    • Formula: CnH2n
  3. Alkynes
    Hydrocarbons with triple CC bonds
  4. Addition reactions
When new atoms form bonds with carbon atoms formerly part of double or triple bonds. In alkenes this creates saturated hydrocarbons.
  5. Hydrogenation reactions
When His used as a reactant
  6. What structure does benzene have? What is the degree of its C-C angles?
    Planar; 120 degrees
  7. Phenyl
When a benzene ring is used as a substituent
  8. Ortho- (o-)
two adjacent substituents on a benzene ring
  9. Para- (p-)
two substituents directly across the ring from each other
  10. meta- (m-)
two substituents with one carbon between them
  11. Xylene
A benzene with two methyl substituents
  12. A benzene with a chlorine substituent
    Chlorobenzene
  13. Benzene with a methyl substituent
    Toluene
  14. Benzene with a bromine substituent
    Bromobenzene
  15. Benzine with a OH substituent
    Phenol
  16. Benzene with a NO2 substituent
    Nitrobenzene
  17. Benzene with a CH=CHsubstituent
    Styrene
