  1. Side Scatter measures?
    Forward Scatter measures?
    • SS = Granularity
    • FS= Size
  2. Impedence
Obstruction through an electrical field, can measure size of cell
  3. Anemia
    Decreased RBC mass
  4. MCH

    MCHC
Mean Cell Hb= Hb/ RBC count

Mean Cell Hb Concentration = Hb/ MCV
  5. Iron Deficiency
    • Low MCH, Low MCHC
    • Small, pale RBCs
    • Most common nutritional disorder worldwide
    • Low ferritin, High transferrin (TIBC)
  6. Anisocytosis
    • Variation in RBC size
    • Seen in thalassemia
  7. Poikilocytosis
    • Variation in RBC shape
    • Seen in thalassemia
  8. Plummer-Vinson Syndrome
    • Esophageal web, atrophic glossitis, strawberry tongue
    • Associated with Iron Deficiency Anemia
  9. Thalassemia has
    Target cells, crew cut skull
  10. Macrocytic Anemias
Folate Deficiency (hypersegmented neutrophils, Normal methylmalonic acid)

    • B12 Defieciency (Pernicious Anemia due to destruction of parietal cells that produce intrinsic factor.)
    • Dietary deficiency is rare
    • Subacute combined degeneration of spinal cord, increased methylmalonic acid
