    • 3. Randomly decide which group gets the treatment.
  15. When subjects know they are part of an experiment? The factory with the lights.
    Hawthorne effect

    Homogenous group
  18. What is quasi experimental research?
    Post hoc
  19. What is single subject design?
A baseline, B treatment, A withdrawal of treatment and return to baseline, B reintroduction of treatment
  20. What are the two sequences with single subject design?
    • ABA
    • ABAB
  21. What is longitudinal method/design?
Following a group of people over a long period of time.
  22. What is multiple baseline design?
Similar to single subject, except multiple subject. Same ABA method.
  23. What is cross sectional method?
A study covering different age groups but all at the same time.
  24. What is a follow up study?

A measure of how much two variables change together and how strong the relationship is between them. Analysis of covariance.
  26. What is external validity?
The extent to which the results of an experiment can be generalized.
  27. What is internal validity?
The accuracy in concluding that the outcome of an experiment is due to the independent variable.

    • Close examination
    • Lots of information gathered
    • Encourage multiple ways to gather info
    • Best way to get rich information
    • Suggest directions for further study
  32. What are 5 disadvantages to case studies?
    • What you see is not what you get.
    • Notes from one person is only one reality.
    • What you have in depth is lost in breadth.
    • No cause and effects link.
    • Findings are not easy to generalize.
