What is fundo?

a way to use indirect ophthalmoscopy using a slit lamp
Why is fundo useful?
- High resolution and stereoscopic view of posterior pole and vitreous
- High magnification view
- peripheral retina on dilated patients
- Variable illuminations and apertures
- Photo documentation of anomalies
- evaluating the health of the posterior segment of the eye
- detecting optic nerve head changes, macular oedema and retinal neovascularisation
Advantages of fundo?
- non invasive
- can be performed undilated
- stereopsis

- excellent view of vitreous
Disadvantages of fundo?
- difficult to get to the periphery- px unable to tilt head
- tough to interpret periphery things
Indications for use?
- Every patient – dilated or undilated
- Diabetic retinopathy
- Glaucoma
- Macular degeneration
- Papilledema
- Vascular obstructions
