  4. Dopamine mechanism
    • Cause Vascular relaxation
    • Stimulate boh alpha-1 & alpha-2 receptor
    • Mediate smooth muscle constriction
  5. Dopamine Side Effects
    • Fast or irregular heart beat
    • Headache
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Chest Pain
    • Dizziness
    • Pain, Redness, or swelling @ injection sites
    • Severe Allergic Reactions
    • (Rash; hive, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue)
  6. Dopamine
    Nursing Consideration
    • Must be given via CVC, normal Cannula okay
    • Strict observation of site to make ensure extravasation doesn't occur
    • (will cause necrosis, ischaemia, and sloughing of the area)
    • Dopamine is stable for 24 hours, flask therefore should be change every 24/24
    • Pulmonary hypertension maybe exacerbate due to Dopamine induced pulmonary vasoconstriction
    • Dopamine mus be weened and not ceased suddenly
  7. Levophed (Norepinephrine)
    Side Effects
    • Dizziness
    • Headache
    • Insomnia
    • Trembling
    • Hypetension
    • Arrhythmias
    • Thyroid gland enlargement
    • Asthma exacerbation
