    Agreement of 1851 between Plains Indian tribes and the US government; the governement agreed to make cash resitution for disruptions to the buffalo grounds while tribal leaders agreed not to attack the large number of settlers moving though the area

    Idea that America was destined by God to possess North America from the Atlantic to the Pacific phrase coined by John O Sullivan in 1845

    political movement started by disaffected anti south democrats headed by former Democratic president Martin Van Buren; wanted new lands available

    Five part bill proposed by Henry Clay, which outlined specific arrangements that accommodated by both anti-slavery northerners and slaveowning southerners
