What is a homologous series?

A family of organic compounds with a general formula and similar chemical properties.
Classify the organic compounds.
The compound in each homologous series have a special group of atoms, except for alkanes. What are these special groups of atoms called?
- It is called functional groups.
- It is responsible for the chemical properties of a compound.
- For example, alkenes all contain the C = C group. (unsaturated) and all the members of the alcohol family have the -OH group (hydroxyl group)
