    a transient absense of spontaneous respiration
  2. wheeze
    a whistling to sighing sound resulting from narrowing of the lumen of a respiratory passageway
  3. fremitus
    vibratory tremors felt by palpation through the chest wall
  4. inhale
    to draw in a breath
  5. bronchitis
    inflammation of the bronchial mucous membrane
  6. crepitation
    a rattling in the throat
  7. atelectasis
    a collapsed or airless condition of the lungs
  8. bradypnea
    abnormally slow breathing rate
  9. COPD
    the initials for the disease process called chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder
  10. Kussmaul Respirations
    very deep and labored breathing with normal or increased frewquency, fuond among people with severe acidosis

    an increased respiratory rate which is deeper than usual commonly occurs in exercise

    sounds made between tracheal and vesicular sounds
  16. orthopnea
    discomfort in breathing
  17. consolidation
    solidification of the lungs due to engorgement of the lung tissue, can be seen in pneumonia
  18. percussion
    tapping of the body lightly but firmly
  19. egophony
    a nasal sound heard in auscultation of the chest when a subject speaks in a normal tone
  20. asthma
    paroxysmal dyspnea accompanied by the adventitious sounds caused by a spasm of the bronchial tubes or swelling of the mucous membrane
  21. pleural effusion
    escape of fluid into the pleural space
  22. pleurisy
    inflammation of the pleura
  23. rhonchi
    abnormal sounds produced by passage of air through bronchi which contain secretions
  24. tachypnea
    abnormally high respiratory rate
  25. hyperventilation
    increased inspiration and expiration as a result of forced increased rate and/or depth
