    1) red zone
    2) light green zone
    3) dark green zone
    4) purple zone
    5) orange zone
    6) yellow zone
shown on the urban zone model below
    Image Upload 1
    • red zone = CBD
    • light green zone = cheap and medium priced old housing
    • dark green zone = modern factories
    • orange zone = expensive housing
    • purple zone = squatter settlements
    • yellow zone = high quality commercial spine developments
  2. is this urban zone model a model of a developed city or developing city
    Image Upload 2
    developing city
  3. what are the similarities in layout between a developed city and a developing city
both have a CBD in the centre surrounded by older settlements
  4. what are the differences in layout between a developed city and developing city (6)
    • the layout of developing world cities is much less regular than that of a developed world city
    • land uses are less well-segregated for two main reasons:
    • - planning controls are much weaker
    • - explosive growth has meant that newcomers take over any unused land for their homes . These people are called squatters ; squatter settlements consist of slum housing , which grows into shanty towns wherever there is enough land unused land within the city , or outside if not
    • the layout of developing cities therefor varys from city to city
    • unlike developed cities , developing cities have wedges
    • in developed cities the futher away from the CBD you are the more expensive the housing , however in developing cities expenisve housing from the edge of the CBD outwards in a wedge to the rural-urban fringe
  5. examples of developing cities include
    • Nairobi , Kenya , Africa
    • New Delhi , India , Asia
    • Rio de Janiero , Brazil , South America
  6. the squatter settlements zone in a developing city is the zone which is most different to a zone in the same position in a developing city because
in a devloped city this zone contains expensive housing as it is further away from the CBD . Despite this zone still being further away from the CBD in many parts of a developing city , this zone is where the illegal shanty towns have developed , which is the cheapest housing .
  7. In developing cities this squatter settlements zone ..... ..... other  ..... such as the cheap and medium priced old priced housing
    • splits up
    • zones
  8. the ...... ...... zone in a developing cities tends to follow a river or railway towards the CBD
    squatter settlements zone
  9. . In developed cities zones do not tend to split up others or be split up by others as they do in developing cities . An example of zones being split up by other zones in developing zones includes the
expensive housing zone and modern factories zone splitting up the squatter settlements zone
  10. a squatter settlement is a
group of homes built illegally on land that is not owned by people living there
  11. squatter settlements develop because
there is a lot of extreme poverty in developing cities and people are left to fend for themselves without financial support from the government .  The main reason why there is so much poverty is because there has been rapid urbanisation in developing countries due to a lack of job opportunities in the countryside , so people have moved to the city for jobs in the CBD where there are very low paid jobs such as shoe cleaning , but even this is better than nothing , howver it still means that people can not afford to buy or rent houses so decide to build their own but can not afford the materials needed to build the house so they use any scraps of material that they can find .
  12. what are the differences in land use between a developed city and developing city (4)
    • in developing cities some of the land is used for modern factories , however in developed cities the factories are located in the inner city which tends to be run down therefor the factories are old and sometimes abandodned
    • in developed cities some land has no use , especially in inner cities , there is derelict land around sidings , unused docks and canals ; in developing cities there is no spare land , any spare land is used for illegal squatter settlements
    • only developing cities have slums
    • rich houses in developing countries are in a wedge , in developed cities howver they are in the outer suburbs
  13. what are the similarities in land use between a developed city and developing city

the houses are good for many more years and virtually all the land suitable for building has already been used

are housing areas towards the edge of the city . Land here is cheaper and it's still close enough to commute into the CBD for work quite easily
  45. (developed city) In the UK and USA what type of families tend to live in the suburbs and why
