Diabetic Meds

  1. Actos (pioglitazone Hcl) 15mg-45mg
    Take same time everyday

    Increase cell sensitivty to insulin
  2. Glucophage (Metformin HCL)

    500,800,1000mg 1-3x day
    Take with meals

    decrease glucose production and increases tissue sensitivty to insulin
  3. Glucotrol (glipizide) 5-10 mg
    Take 1/2 hr before meals 1 or 2xa day

    cause pancreas to release insulin and increase tissue sensitivity to insulin
  4. Prandin ( repaglinide) 0.5,1,2mg
    take 0-30 mins before meal


    stimulate rapids and short insuline secretions from beta cells
  5. Precose (acarbose) 15-100mg
    Take before meals

    Decrease and delays absorption of ingested carbs, resulting in small rise in BG
