    Polypeptide hormone extracted from the posterior pituitaries of animals. It possesses pressor and antidiuretic hormone properties. Conclusive evidence supporting the use of vasopressin in cardiac arrest is lacking
  3. Mechanism of Action
    Vasopressin, in higher doses, acts as a non-alpha-adrenergic vasoconstrictor through direct stimulation of smooth muscle receptors. It can be used as an alternative to epi during cardiac arrest

    • Duration: 30-60 min
    • Half-life: 10-20 min
  5. Indications
    • Used to increase peripheral vascular resistance during CPR as an alternative to or after epi has been used.
    • 1 Dose may replace the first or second dose of epi in cardiac arrest
  6. Contraindications
    None for Cardiac arrest

    • Angina

    • Skin blanching
    • Abdominal cramps
    • Nausea
    • Hypertension
    • Bradycardia
    • Minor arrythmias
