    • (bile salts are necessary for absorption of cholelestrol)

  17. Cholestryamine (questran) imps
    • Increase fiber and fluids
    • Take all other drugs at least 1
    • hour prior or 4-6 hr after
    • Supplement of fat vitamins (ADEK)
    • Mix powder with crushed fruit or 4-6 oz of fluid
    • Dissolve completely
    • Take just before or with meals
    • Change position slowly
    • Contact immediately if black tarry stool occurs
  18. Furosemide (Lasix)
    • Class: loop diuretic
    • MOA: block chloride and sodium reabsorption in ascending limb of the loop of henle; also activates prostaglandins, dilating blood vessels, decreases BP, PVR, SVR, CVP

    • great for rapid dieresis; edema and pulmonary edema r/t HF,
    • liver/renal disease, control HTN, increase Ca excretion, ascites

    allergy, hepatic coma, severe electrolyte loss

    • hypokalemia, erythema, exfoliative dermatitis,
    • phosensitivity, dizzy, HA, tinnitus, blurred vision, hyperglycemia
  22. Furosemide (Lasix) interactions
    • increase ototoxicity: vanco, chloroquine
    • hypokalemia/increase dig toxic: digoxin and corticosteroids
    • increase lithium: lithium
    • decreased effects: NSAIDS
    • hyperglycemia: sulfonylureas

    • k supplement needed
    • eat k rich foods (bananas,
    • oranges, apricots, dates, raisins, broccoli, potatoes, wheat bread, legumes)
  24. s/s of hypokalemia
