What is heat? Heat is a form of energy State the three different ways heat can move Conduction Convection Radiation What is a conductor? Give an example A conductor is a material that allows heat to pass through to eg. copper, aluminium and brass What is an insulator? Give an example An insulator is a material that does not allow heat to pass through it eg. a lagging jacket, clothes and fibreglass Explain conduction This is the way heat moves through a material without the material moving eg. along a metal spoon What is convection? This is the movement of heat in liquids and gases by flowing currents eg. heating water in a kettle Define radiation This is the movement of heat in rays eg. the sun and the grill State the temperature water boils at 1000C Do bright surfaces reflect or absorb heat? Reflect the heat Do dark surfaces reflect or absorb heat? Absorbs the heat What happens to a solid, liquid or a gas when it is heated? It expands What happens to a solid, liquid or gas when it is cooled? It contracts What is temperature? This is a measure of how hot or cold an object is State the piece of equipment used to measure temperature A thermometer State the SI unit used to measure temperature Kelvin (K) Degrees Celsius (0C) Explain the difference between heat and temperature Heat is a form of energy whereas temperature is a measure of how hot or cold an object is State the SI unit used to measure heat Joule (J) Explain latent heat Latent heat is the energy needed to change the state of a substances without changing its temperature Authormshowley ID150781 Card SetScience - Heat DescriptionHeat Updated2017-06-16T16:52:20Z Show Answers
