  10. Aspirin nursing considerations
    long term use, check for liver damage: dark urine, clay colored stools, yellowing of skin and sclera, itching, abdominal pain, fever, diarrhea; for arthritis, give 30 min before exercise, may take 2 weeks before full effect is felt, discard tablets if they smell like vinegar
  11. Minoxidil (Rogaine) class
    antihypertensives

    edema, increase in body hair, rash
  13. Minoxidil (Rogaine) nursing
    teach pt to take radial pulse, check for wt gain, edema, topical approved to promote hair growth in men and women, do not use in children or infants, avoid contact with eyes, mucours, or sensitive skin
  14. Atorvastatin Calcium (Lipitor) class
    antilipemics

    constipation, decreased vitamins ADK, ABD pain, nausea, arthralgia, myopathy, nasopharyngitis, UTI
  16. Atorvastation Calcium (Lipitor) what is it used for
    lower cholesterol, digitalis toxitity, biliary obstruction pruritus and diarrhea; decrease risk of MI and stroke with DM2 pts
  17. Atorvastation Calcium (Lipitor) nursing
    take meals one hr before or 4 hours after this med to avoid poor absorption, mix granuales in applesauce or liquid, do not take dry, let stand for 2 min; monitor for hypoprothrombinemia such as bleeding gums, tarry stools, hematuria, bruising; minitor liver enzymes; avoid grapefruit
  18. Nitro class
    antianginals

    transient headache, postural hypotension, flushing
  20. Nitro what is it used for
    treatment/prophylaxis of angina pectoris; IV used for control of BP during surgery and CHF associated with acute MI
  21. Nitro sustained release
    every 4-6 hours on empty stomach; onset 20-40 minutes, duration 3-8 hours
  22. Nitro spray
    do not inhale spray. Onset 2 minutes, duration 3-5 minutes

    use infusion pump and special non PVD tubing, onset 1-2 minutes, duration 3-5 minutes

    mgmt. of ventricular arrhythmias unresponsive to less toxic agents

    prophylaxis and treatment of chronic asthma and allergic rhinitis

    do not use to treat acute symptoms, notify clinician of wheezing, respiratory distress, full therapeutic effect may take several weeks, may increase neuropsychiatric events
