    • - VENOUS RETURN
    • - CARDIAC WORKLOAD
  2. DESCRIPTION:
    Dobutamine (Dobutrex)
    Sympathomimetic
    • Synthetic catecholamine and beta agent
    • that increases strength of cardiac contraction
    • w/out appreciably increasing rate.
  3. DESCRIPTION:
    Nalaxone (Narcan)
    Narcotic Antagonist
    • Pure narcotic antagonist that blocks the effects of
    • both synthetic and natural overdoses.

    May reverse respiratory depression.
  4. DESCRIPTION:
    Dopamine (Inotropin)
    Sympathomimetic
    Naturally occuring catecholamine that increases cardiac output with appreciably increasing myocardial oxygen consumption.

    It maintains renal and mesentric blood flow while inducing vasoconstriction and increasing systolic blood pressure.

    Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3)
    Alkalizing Agent
    • Provides vascular bicarbonate to assist buffer system
    • in reducing the effects of metabolic acidosis
    • and in the treatment of some overdoses.

    • Potent analgesic and sedative
    • that causes some vasodilation
    • reducing venous return and
    • reducing myocardial oxygen demand.

    • Pt's taking sildenafil
    • Glaucoma & Shock

    • Hypovolemic hypotension w/out aggressive fluid resuscitation
    • Tachydysrhythmia's
    • V-fib
    • Pheochromocytoma
  16. CONTRAINDICATIONS:
    Dobutamine (Dobutrex)
    Sympathomimetic
    • Hypersensitivity to sympathomimetic amines
    • V-tach
    • Hypovolemia w/out fluid resuscitation
  17. CONTRAINDICATIONS:
    Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3)
    Alkalizing Agent
    • None when used in:
    • Severe hypoxia or
    • Late cardiac arrest
  18. CONTRAINDICATIONS:
    Morphine Sulfate (Morphine)
    Narcotic Analgesic
    • Hypersensitivity to opiates
    • Undiagnosed head or abd injury
    • Hypotension or Volume depletion
    • Acute bronchial asthma & COPD
    • Severe respiratory distress OR
    • Pulmonary edema due to chemical inhalation
  19. NALAXONE
    ADULT DOSE
    • 0.4 - 2mg IV/IM
    • 2 - 2.5 times the ET dose
    • repeated, 2-3 min as needed
    • up to 10mg
  20. NALAXONE
    PEDS DOSE
    • 0.01mg IV/IM
    • 2 - 2.5 times the ET dose
    • repeated, every 2-3 min as needed
    • up to 10mg
  21. NITRO
    ADULT DOSE
    • 1 tab (0.4 mg) SL
    • may repeat every 3-5
    • up to 3 tablets
    • OR
    • 1/2 inch - 1 inch of topical ointment
    • OR
    • 1 spray (0.4mg) SL
    • up to 3 sprays/25 minutes
  22. DOPAMINE

    • 2 - 20 mcg/kg/min IV
    • titrated to effect

    • PT MAY RETURN TO OD STATE

    • *NALAXONE SHOULD BE READILY AVAILABLE TO COUNTERACT THE EFFECTS OF MS*
  34. NITRO
    MAY INDUCE SEVERE HEADACHE

    LIGHT SENSITIVE & WILL LOSE POTENCY WHEN EXPOSED TO AIR.
  35. SODIUM BICARB
    • MAY CAUSE ALKALOSIS IF GIVEN IN TOO LARGE A QUANTITY
    • MAY ALSO DEACTIVATE
    • AND MY PRECIPITATE W/CALCIUM CHLORIDE
  36. DOBUTAMINE
    • A-FIB
    • PRE-EXISTING HTN
  37. DOPAMINE
    • OCCLUSIVE VASCULAR DISEASE
    • COLD INJURY
    • ARTERIAL EMBOLISM
    • *ENSURE ADEQUATE FLUID RESUSCITATION OF THE HYPOVOLEMIC PT*
