- Insertion - gluteal tuberosity ( upper part of linea aspera - thin ridge on posterior middle of femur ) and iliotibial tract
- Function - extend thigh, lateral rotation
- Nerve supply - inferior gluteal nerve

- Origin - anterior superior iliac spine, adjacent part of iliac crest
- Insertion - iliotibial tract
- Function - stabalizes thigh to hip when body's weight is on one leg

- Insertion - lateral condyle of tibia

- Insertion - tendon of obturator internus which inserts into greater trochanter

- Origin - inner surface of obturator membrane ( which covers the obturator foramen ) and surrounding bone, through lesser sciatic foramen, behind hip joint
- Insertion - greater trochanter
- Function - lateral rotation of thigh, maintain integrity of hip joint
- Nerve supply - sacral plexus

- Origin - ischial tuberosity
- Insertion - tendon of obturator internus which inserts to greater trochanter
- Function - lateral rotation of thigh and maintains integrity of hip
- Nerve supply - sacral plexus

- Origin - ischial tuberosity, behind joint
- Insertion - gluteal tubercle ( ridge just above linea aspera and just below intertrochanteric crest )
- Function - rotate thigh laterally, maintain integrety of hip joint, adduction of thigh
- Nerve supply - sacral plexus, S1, S2

- Origin - external surface of obturator membrane ( anterior ) plus surrounding bone, under / behind joint
- Insertion - trochanteric fossa ( medial ( kind of inside ) surface of greater trochanter )
- Function - rotates thight laterally, maintains integrity of hip
